The IP Strategy Summit: NYC
Protecting Innovation, Creating Leverage, and Managing Risk in a Rapidly Evolving IP Landscape
The IP Strategy Summit: NYC brings together senior in-house IP counsel, chief legal officers, patent leaders, trademark and copyright counsel, litigators, and business stakeholders to examine how intellectual property can protect innovation, create competitive advantage, and support business growth.
As organizations navigate technological change, AI-driven ownership and infringement questions, enforcement activity, trade secret exposure, global brand threats, and pressure to demonstrate the value of IP investments, legal teams are playing a larger role in business strategy. Intellectual property is no longer solely a legal asset—it is a driver of market position, commercial leverage, risk management, and enterprise value.
This year’s program features two dedicated tracks. The Patent Strategy Track will address portfolio value, litigation readiness, licensing, enforcement, and AI-related patent issues. The Trademark, Copyright & Brand Protection Track will examine counterfeiting, online enforcement, content risk, global brand threats, and brand value. Cross-disciplinary sessions will connect both tracks with trade secrets, data, software, AI, and broader business strategy.
Through candid discussions among corporate IP leaders and industry practitioners, the summit will examine how organizations are adapting their IP strategies, identifying new opportunities, and strengthening their competitive position.

Agenda
IP has become far more than a legal function; it is a strategic business asset that influences growth, competitive positioning, partnerships, product development, and enterprise value. As organizations navigate increasingly complex innovation ecosystems, legal teams are being asked to think beyond individual rights and develop integrated IP strategies that align with broader business objectives. This discussion examines how companies maximize the value of patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, software, data, and contractual rights to protect innovation, strengthen market position, and create long-term business advantage.
This panel will explore:
- Aligning IP strategy with business growth, innovation, and commercialization goals
- Determining which assets warrant investment, protection, enforcement, or monetization
- Leveraging multiple forms of IP protection to create stronger competitive barriers
- Demonstrating the business value of IP portfolios to executive leadership and stakeholders
Trade secrets increasingly sit at the center of modern intellectual property strategy. Valuable confidential information now extends far beyond technical know-how to include source code, AI models, proprietary datasets, product roadmaps, customer insights, licensing information, marketing strategies, and other critical business assets. As workforce mobility, third-party collaboration, and AI-enabled tools create new avenues for exposure, organizations must rethink how they identify, protect, and enforce trade secrets across the enterprise. This discussion examines the evolving trade secret landscape and the practical steps companies are taking to safeguard confidential value.
This panel will explore:
- Identifying high-value trade secrets across technical, commercial, and creative functions
- Managing risks associated with departing employees, contractors, vendors, and partners
- Protecting confidential information in AI-enabled environments and collaborative workflows
- Responding to misappropriation, data leakage, and unauthorized use of proprietary assets
Artificial intelligence, advanced computing, connected products, and other emerging technologies are reshaping how companies innovate and creating new areas of patent exposure in the process. As legal standards continue to evolve and competitive pressures intensify, organizations are facing difficult questions about risk assessment, portfolio strength, and dispute preparedness. This discussion examines where the next generation of patent disputes is likely to emerge and how legal teams can position themselves to respond effectively.
This panel will explore:
- Emerging technologies most likely to drive future patent litigation activity
- Monitoring competitive landscapes and identifying developing areas of exposure
- Building litigation readiness before disputes arise
- Coordinating legal, technical, and business teams to support innovation while managing risk
In today’s environment, the value of a patent portfolio is increasingly measured by the leverage it creates rather than the number of patents it contains. Whether supporting licensing efforts, defending against competitors, enabling strategic transactions, or strengthening negotiation positions, organizations are focusing on building portfolios that deliver meaningful business outcomes. This discussion examines how companies evaluate portfolio strength and prioritize investments that create long-term strategic value.
This panel will explore:
- Defining what makes a patent valuable in today’s enforcement and licensing landscape
- Evaluating portfolios for litigation readiness and defensive strength
- Balancing filing volume with strategic portfolio development
- Using patents to support transactions, partnerships, and commercial negotiations
As innovation investments grow and competitive pressures increase, many companies are revisiting how patents can be used proactively to support broader business objectives. Beyond serving as defensive assets, patents can create leverage in licensing discussions, commercial negotiations, market positioning, and competitive disputes. This discussion examines when and how organizations activate patent portfolios as part of a deliberate business strategy.
This panel will explore:
- Factors influencing decisions to assert, license, acquire, or monetize patents
- Balancing enforcement opportunities with business and reputational considerations
- Using patent assets to support competitive positioning and market leverage
- Aligning patent strategy with corporate growth and commercial objectives

Generative AI is creating new uncertainty around ownership, authorship, infringement, fair use, and brand misuse. Companies using AI tools must balance innovation with practical legal controls that protect content, trademarks, creative assets, and reputation. This session will examine how legal teams are adapting policies, contracts, and enforcement strategies as AI-related IP risk continues to evolve.
This panel will discuss:
- Ownership and authorship challenges involving AI-generated content
- Trademark and copyright infringement risks tied to AI tools and outputs
- Fair use, training data, and emerging litigation trends
- Internal policies for responsible AI use, review, and protection
Brands today exist across a growing number of channels, platforms, partnerships, and markets, creating new opportunities as well as new risks. - Managing reputational risk across digital, social, and global channels
- Addressing unauthorized use, infringement, and brand misuse

Counterfeiting, unauthorized marketplace activity, and cross-border infringement continue to challenge brand owners as commerce becomes increasingly global and digital.
